The reasons behind: Don't Flame Me!

(Or: What the HELL was he thinking?)

If you're wondering what the word "Flame" has to do with this site, then please read on.

The everyday word "flame" as a noun could describe fire that burns in a chimney or burns down a house or forest.

"They had a flaming love affair!" speaks of a rather heated romance.

In verb form one could set flame to something like a match, or perhaps a protester that set him or herself on fire (ah -- self-immolation - the sincerest form self-flattery).

And you cringe when someone says "Look at the flaming faggot!" because it speaks of a bigots view of homosexuals. Verbally, it may describe the person being slurred as an outgoing or "loud" queer. The noun "Faggot" has a rather dark history with gays, too sad to bring up here.

A jet engine can have a "flame-out" condition that is very serious indeed.

There are even more examples out there but, there yet another "Flame" that I'm talking about.

As most internet users know, flaming is the act of sending nasty e-mail or posting verbal assaults at or about someone. This can be between two or more users.

Have you ever "flamed" someone? Sure you have! Saying nasty things to someone with E-mail is easy! You will find lot's of flaming in debate forums, newsgroups or on public bulletin boards. Flaming someone is not the same as being a troll. You can't argue with the insane.

Flaming can be anything from having a little fun by roasting someone, or it can be a snide or even profane attack. Some flaming is rather personal and intended to belittle the recipient of the flame. What's more embarrassing for the recipient is if it is being done in a public forum. These attacks are usually aimed at the person (victim's) manhood, intellect (or lack thereof), integrity and/or veracity.

Flaming, if it is creative and has a ring of truth to it, can be very funny. There are those who love to throw gasoline on a fire and get a thin skinned infuriated by a few choice words. I've even seen death threats between people who never met, they only exchanged words but were willing to kill each other over them!

Vicious flames are cheap because of the relative anonymity of electronic communication and the fact that the flamer probably lives a far distance away from the victim (thus bringing the risk of getting a punch in the nose to a most unlikely possibility). Flaming can be more venomous than a similar discussion with all physically present. For more information about how to flame someone please read "The Flamers Bible."

Years ago I used to join on-line debate forums. I found that they were very stimulating... at first. However, they would often degenerate into flame wars, wars that I was just as guilty of starting as anyone else. When I opened my mail after starting a flame war, I never had to turn up the thermostat because the flames could heat an entire house!

Now, instead of hashing out the merits of privatizing municipal public services or railing about the evils of Socialism, I quietly waste all of my spare time drinking beer and trying to do something creative on-line. Thus the reason I started this site. It is also sort of a resume so I can pimp my web building and graphic art abilities.

This pitiful little site allows me to rant, tell horrible jokes, show off some graphic art, and express my views on life. Perhaps some of my views do not agree with your own, or a joke you read was a little too close to home. Deal with it! That possibility does not keep me from posting things controversial in nature. I realize that some things posted here are capable of inciting flames, but that is not my intention. If you see something you want to comment on, by all means write, but that won't stop me from saying what I feel ought to be said. I refuse to relinquish my principles for the sake of fitting in. Some people actually LIKE what is posted here and write me love mail.

So there you have it. Would you like to sign up for the next time this site is updated? I promise that you will NEVER receive any spam! If you don't want updates, just come back again every two weeks or so as more humor, insight, and artwork is published. You might want to contribute something of your own. I would be happy to oblige. So now that you know what this is all about, feel free to tell me what you think. Write to me at:
